What corona teaches us?

 The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak as a global pandemic on 11th March 2020. Sri Lankan government imposed a curfew from 20th March 2020 in some part of the capital Colombo for 3 months. After 3 weeks from curfew imposed only have received office PC and other equipment to perform work from home under Business Continuity Plan of my working place.

During the 3 weeks' time, I did not have any work and suck alone in my boarding place. Due to the continued search and deep thinking about Coronavirus, I ended up with enlightenment about coronavirus. In addition, human creatures experienced few pandemics and learned lessons.



According to my understanding and realization, I am coming up with the below points; it is purely my own opinions.

Digital Technology

Over the past months after COVID 19 pandemic, we have seen how digital technology is working for education, work, and so on. Online classes are happening in school, Work From Home (WFH) environment is going on all over the world, in some instances, court cases also going online. The same Digital Technology was there before COVID 19 pandemic but no one is exposed to this as much.

After WHO declared COVID 19 pandemic, Business Continuity Plan was discussed but there were some reluctant to introduce the Work from Home option at my office. WHF was introduced within 3 weeks time of the curfew imposed by Sri Lankan government and still continuing.

Flexible society

There is a complaint in women empowerment, this rule-based society is developed only for men. Work From Home (WFH) environment gave space to make flexible society. Nowadays, we can be able to see the women are managing job and life balance with a flexible society given by COVID 19.

In addition, a Flexible society brings a lot of advantages to everyone such as new learning, personal development, and family time, and so on, than spending most of the day at the office. Flexible working the environment due to Work from Home leads to the next point that is Job- Life balance.

Job -life balance

before Working From Home environment, most of the people spent most of the day at the office. That led them to stop spending time with their family and themselves. Work From Home gave us the time and space to maintain the Job-Life balance.

Before COVID, what we had done is, getting tired at the office most of the time of day and spent the remaining day with entertainment without spending with family or spending time with personal development.

Nature is ultimate

This the main teaching of COVID 19, we were destroying nature without thinking about the future generation (Sustainability).  In human history, nature took action to balance them by earthquake, Tsunami, and so on. COVID19 is also one of the balancing mechanisms of nature.

No one cannot go beyond nature. We can use nature without destroying them. We need to hand over nature to the future generation. We have to live with nature with future generations in mind.

New learning

Event digital technology developed because of COVID 19, Artificial Intelligent is also developing drastically. There are a lot of customers faced service sectors that are providing services by using Artificial Intelligent. For E.g – The banking sector is providing collecting customer information by using Artificial Intelligent.

There are a lot of learnings we have learned to live with COVID 19 to face any other pandemic like that. There are lots of pandemics like that in human history, but in this pandemic, we have learned different learning in digital technology and the medical development era.

Personal hygiene

washing the hand with soap and sanitizer and wearing a face mask is not only saved us from coronavirus, but also other diseases. According to my experience, after started to wash hand and wear a face mask, I did not suffer for any other diseases.

Family time

before Work From Home, it was hard to find time with family. if both husband and wife are working, It was a hard time for parenting their children. Because of Work From Home, some families have a plan to have the baby and grow their child with good parenting and good care.

Employer trust

During the fixed hour working, the employer is closely monitoring the employee how they are working, now employees are working with zero supervision of employees. This leads to efficient and efficiency at work and a win-win situation for both employee and employer.

Other

There are a lot of other learning some other bloggers are writing such as Revolution in Medicine, Age is just a number, work is anywhere and so on, but the above learnings are based on my experiences and realizations.

Even if coronavirus teaches us in this way, and we learned to live accordingly, there are a lot of people suffering from COVID 19. There are a lot of job losses and ramp down in the business operation. If we are in safe places, we need to help those who are suffering from COVID 19.
