5 Takeaways from the book “Rise above organizational Dilemma” by Dr. Nalin Jayasuriya.
This is the first book summary I am doing for a Sri Lankan author and I am proud to be a Sri Lankan. This book has 136 pages and no content is duplicated. Before divining into the book it is good to know about the author Dr. Nalin Jayasuriya. Dr. Nalin Jayasuriya is the Chairman of McQuire Rens Global Consulting (Pvt) Ltd. and Non-Executive Chairman on the Board of Eswaran Brothers Exports (Pvt) Ltd.
Most of us are thinking about why we did not get promoted and others got promoted, even if we have more qualifications. This book will give you the answer to how to perform well to get promoted.
There are 11 takeaways in this book, but I am going to highlight 5 main takeaways why you need to read this book.
Takeaway: 01 More serious than what meets the eye
You might have seen the vision of any company in the annual report of that company or it displays in the receptions of the company and impressed. But Author Dr. Nalin Jayasuriya asks if all organizations have reverent competence, capability, and resource to achieve the vision and he asks further qualifications and experiences are sufficient for a CEO to run the business successfully towards the organization’s vision. He explained the importance of “People Skills”.

The author elaborates vision, objective, or goal easy way and you no need to have any qualifications to understand. The author explains lots of approaches to keep people on track such as Team Briefing, Engaging People, Leadership, and Management-employee relationship. The author mentions a term called “organizational Loser” and some specific skills. If you are an organizational looser, the specific skills which the author mentioned, will help you to perform better. The author introduces his self-developed ‘V2’ formula to build a brand for yourself.
Takeaway: 03 A few personal beliefs
In this book, author Dr. Nalin mentions a few personal beliefs. One of them is to cope with stress at work and its benefits. One of the practical examples he mentions here is how unnecessary mail in your inbox making us stress at work.
The second personal belief he explains is about happiness. He expresses happiness is not outside, it is internal freedom. Most of us scare what other people think of us. This is another belief he mentions. When you are doing the right thing, why do you need to worry about what other people think of you?
The author explains some key steps to get what you love most in life with Persistence, genuine hard work, determined ambition, brutal honesty, and a ‘never-give-up attitude. Last belief author elaborate how Over-prepare, then go with the flow is useful to him.
Takeaway: 04 A robust management committee to ride the waves
One of the interesting topics, the author is explaining how organizations use quick fixes for emerging business problems. It is really common to small and medium-sized organizations. Dr. Nalin explains how people who are decisive, initiative, innovative and courageous short in supply affect the performance of any organization.
The members of the Management Committee should be very fair, reaching out with open minds to understand individual concerns and the author mentions how his self-developed ‘V2’ formula for the same. In addition, he explains why Sri Lankans work better, more effectively, and with greater enthusiasm overseas rather than in Sri Lanka.

Every one of us would like to be in charge of our life. Author Dr. Nalin explains how employers try to motivate employees and what employees expect from the company. In addition, the author elaborates on hard rupee benefits and soft rupee benefits in terms of organization, customer, and employee.
Further, Dr. Nalin writes about his approach in a Multinational company to develop an HR department. Especially, how he initiated one of the first to launch the 360-degree feedback system in Sri Lanka and he conducted a useful business-sensical presentation in HR conference where the HR Directors from all countries in the MEASC Region participated.
